La joven actriz canadiense Ellen Page, famosa por su papel de adolescente embarazada en la oscarizada "Juno", declaró hoy que es lesbiana con un sentido discurso durante una conferencia sobre los derechos de los homosexuales en Las Vegas.
"Estoy aquí hoy porque soy homosexual. Y porque quizás pueda causar un efecto positivo. Ayudar a otros a que su vida sea más fácil y esperanzadora. Siento que tengo una obligación personal y una responsabilidad social en todo esto", dijo la intérprete de 26 años.
El organizador de la conferencia, Human Rights Campaign, felicitó a Page a través de las redes sociales por su decisión de declarar su homosexualidad públicamente.
"Estoy cansada de esconderme. He sufrido durante años porque me daba miedo decirlo. Pero aquí estoy hoy, con todos ustedes, en el otro lado de todo ese miedo que me afectó mentalmente y en mis relaciones", explicó Page.
Y añadió: "Es raro porque aquí estoy, una actriz, representando, al menos en algún sentido, una industria que establece estándares para todos nosotros. No sólo para la gente joven, para todos. Estándares de belleza, de lo que es una buena vida, del éxito. Estándares que, odio admitirlo, me han afectado".
La actriz canadiense se hizo popular en 2007 con la taquillera película independiente "Juno", del director Jason Reitman, ganadora del Oscar al mejor guión original y nominada también como mejor película.
Page explicó asimismo durante la conferencia en Las Vegas que le han afectado comentarios de ciertas revistas sobre su estilo deportivo de vestir. "Quiero estar cómoda", dijo.
