La directora del Centro de Ayuda para Víctimas de Violación, doctora María Rebecca Ward, instó a la población a tomar acción para evitar nuevos casos de agresión sexual a menores de edad.

“La agresión sexual a menores  se cataloga  como una forma de maltrato, que además constituye un delito. Ocurre cuando una persona, generalmente mayor que el niño o niña, abusa del poder o autoridad que tiene y se aprovecha de la confianza para involucrarlo en actividades sexuales. Somos nosotros, las personas adultas, los que tenemos la oportunidad de poner en práctica medidas que prevengan la violencia sexual”, expresó la doctora Ward.
De acuerdo con la psicóloga clínica, una vez el menor manifieste señales de que ha sido tocado, haya recibido invitaciones deshonestas o haya sido objeto de alguna acción considerada agresión sexual, el adulto deberá seguir las siguientes medidas:
*  Creer lo que el niño (a) dice y dejárselo saber.
*  Mostrar control de sus emociones y conversar con el niño/a en un lugar privado.
*  No culpabilizar al niño (a) de lo sucedido. En cambio, debería manifestar lo valiente que es al atreverse a contarlo.
*  Buscar ayuda profesional médica, psicológica y legal.
*  Conversar sobre las posibles acciones futuras. Explíquele claramente los pasos que seguirán y porqué es importante.
Ante una sospecha, es imprescindible buscar solución sin actuar apresuradamente. Recuerde que un interrogatorio inadecuado al menor puede causar más sufrimiento y alertar a las personas involucradas, complicando la investigación o retardando la reparación del daño.
Además, la directora del CAVV hizo hincapié en las medidas para prevenir un abuso sexual.
“Recomendamos a los padres, madres y tutores a que fomentar cuatro aspectos fundamentales que comienzan desde el hogar: información, comunicación, respeto y confianza. Los menores deben saber qué es el abuso sexual y cómo puede evitar que le ocurra”, afirmó la profesional de la salud mental.
