Las muertes por neumonía en niños menores de cinco años en Perú cayeron en un 20,7 %, al pasar de 33,5 defunciones por cada 100.000 infantes en 2000 a 12,8 en 2012, informó este martes el Ministerio de Salud (Minsa).
Las zonas que presentan mayor cantidad de casos de neumonía son Lima Este, la región andina de Pasco y las selváticas de Ucayali y Loreto.
En lo que va del año, se han atendido 16.782 casos de neumonías y 1.376.551 episodios de infecciones respiratorias agudas (IRA) en menores de cinco años, en establecimientos de salud en todo el país.
Para enfrentar estas enfermedades respiratorias, el Minsa elaboró el Plan de Gestión de Riesgo en Salud frente a las Bajas Temperaturas 2013-2014, que tiene un presupuesto de 3.268.444 soles (1.167.301 dólares).
Un grupo de especialistas que dictó hoy el taller Situación de las IRA y neumonías en el país, organizado por el Minsa, señaló una serie de recomendaciones para evitar el contagio de estas enfermedades, como una buena alimentación para aumentar las defensas del cuerpo.
Se tiene previsto inmunizar contra la influenza a tres millones de personas en todo el país, 1,5 millones de ellas menores de cinco años y 1,7 millones mayores de 60 años, según datos del Minsa.
